“Lake Calhoun real estate” is a very popular search term in the search engines, and for good reason. Some of the finest south Minneapolis homes are found right here, and many of them were built by the city’s most rich and famous individuals. I like to ride my bike around Lake Calhoun and oohhh and aahhh over some of the stately mansions that surround the lake.
Lake Calhoun was once known as the “Lake of the Loons,” but a moniker like “Lake of the Muskies” might be more apt. This south Minneapolis lake is just a hop, skip and a jump from downtown, but holds the state record for producing the largest tiger muskie, weighing in at a whopping 33 pounds! This is a lake that fishermen take seriously, and so does the DNR… it still stocks this lake and is vigilant about water quality control measures. Lake Calhoun boasts a clarity of 15 feet, covers about 401 acres, and has a maximum depth of 82 feet. Only electric trolling motors are allowed here.
It is not possible to buy Lake Calhoun real estate with actual lakefront because the entire lake is surrounded by park trails and parkways. However, some of the most opulent Minneapolis homes can be found for sale here from time to time, but if you find one you like, do not blink because the selection is very limited. In fact, at the time of this post, there was only one Lake Calhoun real estate listing for sale. Call immediately for detailed information on this one.
